在西哈林區住了五年半，一直在等待一家讓我想久坐又空間舒適的咖啡店。左等右等，終於讓我盼到The Chipped Cup的到來 :D 在去年夏天 （2013）開張，在西148&149街之間Broadway上，入口隱身在lower level，若是沒有這塊牌子可能就會一直走過頭。雖然不是一般來紐約的遊客會拜訪的區域，不過如果你和我一樣是咖啡控，也想體驗一下紐約市中心高樓大廈之外的另一個面貌，我誠心推薦大家來坐坐。我個人非常喜歡他們的Latte還有Chai，以及現烤的可頌夾火腿和起士（大心）。光是Chai就有三種不同口味，有一般的，Dirty chai（大概就是chai味更重點），還有南瓜味的。不知道為什麼，他們的招牌設計很有仙履奇緣的風格，南瓜風味的chai也讓我不禁想到南瓜馬車（？）
I've been eagerly expecting a comfortable, spacious coffee shop I'd like to spend my time in since I moved to west harlem 5+ years ago. Then finally, The Chipped Cup came along! The Chipped Cup opened on Broadway between w148&149 Street in the summer of 2012. The entrance is hidden in the lower level. If not for this sign, I might very well missed the stairs. West harlem is not a typical destination to visit for tourists coming to NYC, but if you enjoy coffee like I do and would like to see a different side of NYC, I sincerely recommend people to check out this spot. They have 3 different flavors of Chai Latte, including regular chai, dirty chai, and pumpkin! Their logo design always makes me think of Cinderella. I guess pumpkin chai also reminds me of pumpkin cart? :P
The Chipped Cup的另一個宗旨就是開放店內空間給社區裡的音樂人作為表演空間，協助藝文活動發展。有時會有古典音樂重奏的團體或獨立創作歌手演出，每週也有open mic，偶爾會有電影的screening，譬如說最近就在店裡播放以哈林區為主題的愛情電影。店的後方也有在曼哈頓島上幾乎不可能找得到的偌大後花園，僅在暖和時開放。
Another agenda of The Chipped Cup is to open their place as a community art space. Sometimes they have music performances with styles ranged from classical chamber music to independent songwriters. They also have open mic every week. Occasionally there would be movie screening. For example, the last time I checked, they showed a romance movie that was filmed in harlem. Their big backyard garden is a rare existence for Manhattan, but it's only opened when the weather is warm enough.
Latte art is a must these days, but I liked their latte very very much anyways :) In my opinion, their latte was the only other one that could compete with Oren's (at the time. )They also use coffee beans from Counter Culture.
另外就是我非常喜歡他們這台Tiffany藍的咖啡機，店裡的杯子也都是用同個色系、或是白色的。客人絡繹不絕，但目前還沒有遇過找不到位置坐的窘境。店內燈光也好，不會太暗，也有沙發區域可以坐，店內音樂也不會播放的太大聲，是非常適合工作，看書的環境，也是間在裝潢設計以及餐點品質上都有一定水準的咖啡店。
In addition, I really love their tiffany blue coffee machine. All their cups are either in the same color or in white. It's a busy place, but I haven't had to wait for a seat yet. The lighting inside is not too dark with a comfy couch area, and the music they play is also in the right volume. It's an ideal environment for working and reading. Of course, their quality of food and interior decor are both up to a certain standard.
I and my friend love to get a cup to take out and walk to the nearby Riverside Park for a nice view. If you like to visit different coffee shops like me, The chipped Cup is quite suitable to come by during summer time (so you can seat in their backyard!)
